Well this movie was very special. I am a huge Potterhead, Twihard, ect. I’m a big fan of books made into movies. However, this one was very disappointing. I was expecting changes, but almost everything from the book was changed in the movie. The general story line was there, but very different in every aspect.
The movie is about Lena, a Caster (like a witch) and the new girl in town, who will be claimed as Light or Dark on her 16th birthday. The main character is Ethan, who grew up in Gatlin, a very small town where outsiders are not welcome. His one goal is to get out of town… until he meets Lena.
If you have a read the books, it’s very confusing. If you haven’t read the books, it’s confusing. Not a good thing where movies are concerned. I’m not disappointed that I went to see it, but if you enjoy reading, the books are 100% better.
The movie overall was a little all over the place. It followed, yes, but it starts off with the main Character as Ethan and in the end, the main character is more portrayed as Lena. They took out fairly important characters, revealed stuff that’s only mentioned in the second book and pulls everything into another direction.
Also, the movie was very dark (as in evil, depressing) where as the book isn’t so much dark as undecided I guess would be the best way to put it. They made everything look like it was dark magic, demons, ect.
If you haven’t read the book, I would recommend you go see it if you like those kinds of movies, but if you have read the book, it’s not the same, so put the book out of your mind if you are going to go and watch the movie.
I was really taken aback, too, by how dramatically different the movie was from the book. I could not believe how different the ending was! I haven’t read the second book, though, only the first, so I can’t comment on whether they included things from the second book. Great post!
